Summary:
Provides leadership and management to production planning and
materials personnel accountable for execution of the master
production schedule (MPS). Ensures accurate and timely
completion of production planning tasks and activities.
Reviews and provides input to changes in production planning
policies and procedures. Acts as the subject matter expert
(SME) with respect to production planning and in the identification
and implementation of lean planning methodologies. Oversees
and maintains production planning master data in current
system. Tracks work order progress to ensure release to
production On Time to Promise (OTTP), Work in Process (WIP) flow and
completion to meet customer requirements. Collaborates with
other functional groups in root cause problem solving. Reports
on production planning performance metrics. Facilitates and/or
participates in continuous improvement
initiatives.
Essential Functions and Duties:
- Facilitate and/or participate in Lean/Six Sigma activities in
own work area as well as events in other areas to enhance
cross-functional problem solving, improve processes, eliminate
waste and reduce cost. Act as lead in the identification, design
and implementation of new material and production planning
strategies in support of site-wide lean initiatives.
- Plan, assign, coordinate and review the work of the production
planning and materials personnel; follow established company
policies and procedures or other guidelines as they relate to
assigned area.
- Coordinate and perform a variety of administrative staff work
such as: scheduling, maintaining records, responding to requests
for information or services; performing related administrative
planning and research activities; preparing correspondence,
reports, presentations, statistical information, developing
policies, procedures and/or training methods.
- Provide assistance in performance evaluations, hiring
recommendations, disciplinary actions, approve time off, prepare
work schedules and assignments, and supervise the activities of
assigned personnel. Monitor reports and record keeping
activities filed by assigned personnel for completeness,
accuracy and adherence to policy and procedure. Instruct
staff in departmental policies, techniques and provides
training.
- Ensure tactical production planning execution including
planned order conversion, Work in Process (WIP) management,
exception message review, timely and accurate completion of
system and administrative transactions and Traveler Change Order
(TCO)/Engineering Change Order (ECO) review and sign off.
- Manage Material Planning, Purchasing and Stockroom personnel
to ensure material availability, kitting and work order delivery
to production on time to promise, operations teams in WIP
management and Program Management to ensure timely and accurate
delivery of hardware to meet customer commitments.
- Monitor work orders throughout the assembly process and
assist, as necessary, with identifying idle production,
coordinating resolution through appropriate support groups and
escalate to management as required.
- Write rework instructions for production planning activities
- Participate in safety training and actively comply with safety
policies and practices.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
- Make recommendations to other groups for improvement in
processes such as Master Scheduling for MPS execution,
Engineering on BOM/Router modifications, Operations on material
flow or Material Planning on stocking and replenishment
strategies.
- Develop processes and/or tools to improve production planning
activities and better track and manage work in process.
- Attend and represents Operations and Supply Chain in program
review meetings or other meetings with functional and site
leadership.
Minimum Job Qualifications: (The following qualifications can
be acquired and demonstrated through experience, education and/or
vocational training as noted or as appropriate.)
- Five (5) years of experience in production control (PC),
materials, scheduling and/or manufacturing, preferably with at a
minimum of three (3) years in PC or materials management;
experience with improving material flow and implementing a
variety of material stocking and replenishment strategies in an
ERP environment; SAP a plus
- Two (2) years of Supervisory/Lead work experience; Associate’s
degree required, Bachelor’s degree desired in Business,
Operations, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain or related
field.
- Communication skills: ability to receive messages by
telephone, in person, electronically and in writing; ask
questions and rephrase statements to clarify meaning; ability to
read, interpret and comprehend complex written and verbal
instructions as well as technical publications such as operating
and maintenance instruction and procedure manuals; communicate
across organizational levels; ability to write reports and
correspondence clearly and concisely; ability to effectively
present information and respond to questions from individuals
and managers, internal and external customers, and the general
public; ability to communicate with quality, integrity and
respect in a way that inspires others and encourages innovation
and possibilities;
- Math skills: ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in
all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and
decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to
draw and interpret bar graphs;
- Analytical skills: review and compare data to identify
inconsistencies and determine priorities; ability to deal with
problems involving several concrete variables in standardized
situations; ability to interpret a variety of instructions
furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form;
- Computer skills: working in a networked environment
using a Windows and/or Windows like interface using Power Point,
Excel and Word software programs; working knowledge of
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system such as SAP;
- Time Management and organizational skills: flexibility and
adaptability to changing priorities and assignments; ability to
maintain confidentiality;
