Our Apprentice Programme is a structured programme lasting four years. Your Future? Your Choice.

The Apprentice Programme is underpinned by National Occupational Standards. The four years are predominately "on the job" with day release for college study. Everything you do will contribute to building skills to ensure success in your future career.

As our products contrast in technology, application, complexity and size, the working environment can be hugely varied. Because what Cobham Mission Systems does is so diverse, our apprenticeship programme is unique. At CMS, our aim is to give you a broad and rewarding experience so you'll be a talented and innovative all-rounder.

If you have, or expect to achieve at least five GCSE's or the equivalent at grade B or above, including Maths, English, Science and one technical subject, then you could be part of our dynamic, fast-moving, global company. Every year we recruit a group of apprentices to our structured, four-year training programme, an excellent opportunity to train with the best, in an industry where qualified personnel are in demand all over the world.

Support and Structure

Cobham Mission Systems Wimborne has a long and successful history of training successive generations of apprentices. Over the years, we've built a strong internal support network, which is coupled with good links to local schools and colleges. Designed to ensure success, the Cobham Mission Systems Wimborne programme has a strong personal development thread built in. Great care is taken to ensure apprentices aren't solely focussed on the day job, but developing as a person and an employee with broad, transferrable skills. We believe it's crucial for first time apprentices to do their research and select an employer who can provide a solid environment in which to grow, learn and develop. At Cobham, we care about our apprentices and their futures, and our ongoing investment in them reflects this.

The application process

At Cobham, we're seeking apprentices with real passion, talent and potential. If that sounds like you, here is where you'll discover the stages of the selection process. On this page, we'll also give you some hints and tips on creating a successful application.

1. Online Application

This stage has been created to give us an overall impression of your career plans, qualifications and work experience. Our online form has been designed to give us an broad view of your education, qualifications, work experience and career aspirations.

You will also be able to attach a CV and covering letter which can be useful in personalizing your application. We recruit on several operational sites, so be careful to apply at the location that suits you.

2. College tests and school reference

Upon successful screening of your application, you'll be invited to attend a testing session which will typically take place at a local college or training provider.

We will also contact your most recent school or college for a personal/academic reference. If you're successful, we'll invite you to an open evening where you and your parents/guardians can find out more about Cobham and meet some of our apprentices.

3. Interview

If you've been invited to attend an interview then congratulations - you're almost there!

This enables us to find out more about you, and also for you to find out more about Cobham.

During the interview, we'll give you the opportunity to demonstrate your abilities, potential and discuss your aspirations.

Beyond your academic qualifications we'll be keen to see practical examples of your technical abilities (e.g. school technology projects).

4. Conditional offer of employment

If successful at interview, you’ll be given a conditional offer which is subject to relevant security checks and proof of academic qualifications. Once we have received all your relevant documentation, we will confirm your offer of employment.
